Keekaroo Height Right High Chair {Giveaway}

Welcome to the Keekaroo Height Right High Chair Giveaway sponsored by Keekaroo and hosted by The Parenting Patch. Heather at The Parenting Patch recently received a Keekaroo Height Right High Chair in natural finish with an infant insert in chocolate (dark brown) and a tray plus tray cover from Keekaroo to review. As much as she likes the original highchair that her parents used with her and her brothers, a part of her wishes that she had gotten a Keekaroo for her daughter when she first started eating solids. Putting the chair together is super easy as is making adjustments as the child grows. She particularly loves the safety straps, which prevent her daughter from standing up in the highchair. The infant seat and removable tray are invaluable features, especially for younger babies and toddlers who still make messes while eating. If you are looking for a new highchair for your child, Heather cannot recommend the Keekaroo Height Right High Chair enough! For more information, check out her full Keekaroo Height Right High Chair Review.

Rockstar Designs {Review}

Rockstar Designs

~ I did not receive compensation for this review. The following is my true evaluation of Rockstar Designs ~

About five months ago, I found my new love: wahm (work at home mom) hybrid diapers. I thought I had finally become “stashified” with bumGenius 4.0s for day-use and sustainablebabyish with wool for overnight. I still love them both, but my heart now belongs to hybrids.

Approximately two months ago, I purchased a Rockstar Designs diaper NIP (new in package) from another mama whose little one was potty-learning, so she decided to sell it. I kept it for about a month in its package before deciding to use it. I put it on Hudson at 8pm, with plans to change him into our nighttime solution, sbish and wool, at 10pm. He and I both ended up falling asleep, and at 1am he woke me up ready to nurse. When I realized I had let him sleep for five hours in a hybrid without a cover, I expected to find his bed soaked but was surprised when I found that he had ~just~ began soaking through. I thought to myself how awesome it was that I was able to go longer than two hours without a cover.

I decided to try and find the maker of this diaper and was able to find her here. I contacted her and she informed me that she uses a hidden layer of windpro in her hybrids, which helped explain why Hudson’s diaper didn’t soak through for literally ~hours~.
The mama behind Rockstar Designs is a super-sweet, accommodating lady! Since finding her, I am doing a syof (send your own fabric) to have two customs made by her. I was seriously beside myself with pure joy when I found out she would take on customs without having to score a custom spot through her Hyena Cart or some other form of scoring a custom. She has a job outside of making these wonderful diapers, so the approximate turnaround time of a custom is three weeks from when she receives the fabric. Let’s just say that the next three weeks are going to go by as slowly as the last three weeks of each of my pregnancies! I honestly cannot wait to get more of these. This is my first choice as soon as my diaper laundry is done!

Teething Woes

Teething Woes

 Every mother has heard about teething woes. After all, the painful moments leading up to that first tooth making its appearance is quite a huge milestone. But no one ever fully prepares you for how much of a nightmare it can be for some babies. Fortunately, not all infants go through the same process and may never once acknowledge what is going on in their adorable little mouths. I wish I could say that is how it happened for my little miss!

We spent months waiting for those pearly whites to cut through! Some of those weeks being the most miserable for not only Avalyn, but for myself as well. My most miserable moment being when I couldn't find a way to ease her of the pain. I felt like I had tried everything and nothing seemed to take the edge off for her.

You name it and I probably tried it. We did frozen wash cloths, teether toys, teething tablets, teething gel, vibrating teether toys, frozen foods, offering my (clean) finger, pacifiers designed specifically for teething, Tylenol, amber bead necklaces, etc. etc. I knew that I had to figure out something because I was about to lose my mind! The days leading up to her teeth cutting through her gums were the worst! She refused to eat, she cried and whined all throughout the day, and she would have a complete melt down if I left the room for more than 30 seconds.

So what was our cure?

Clove oil.

Several moms told me to try a clove oil mixture. At this point I figured, "Why not?!". So I did a little bit of research and learned that clove oil has actually been used before on teething children because of its natural numbing agents. I had no idea that something as simple as clove oil could turn our life around!

I managed to find the essential oil in one of our local health food stores and the minute we got home, I got to work on making our mixture. Now, with this particular oil (as with most essential oils) you need to be very careful with because if not diluted properly could cause burns/blisters on your baby's gums. Ouch!

Since I didn't feel like adding to her mouth pain, I diluted my oil with a mixture of olive oil and coconut oil. I tested it on myself to make sure it wouldn't burn and to my surprise it didn't taste terrible and actually made my mouth feel numbed; it almost felt like a cross between an Orajel and Anbesol numbness. Needless to say, I was impressed.

So all I had to do was try it out on my grumpy baby.

I dipped my pinky finger into the oil mixture and gently massaged her gums with it. At first she was a little upset that I was putting my finger in her mouth without her permission, but as the oil began to numb the sore spot on her gums she quickly calmed down.

I swear to you all, I breathed the biggest sigh of relief when my little girl was finally relieved of enough pain to return to her normal self. It is not the cure to teething, but it is able to do enough to where she is not in constant, unbearable pain. Plus it also made all of our other attempts at teething relief work!

Avalyn now has three teeth and every time she started to revert back to the "dark times" I turn to the clove oil. Just a dab every couple of hours paired with Sophie the Giraffe or her vibrating strawberry teether and we are good to go!

 Teething Oil Recipe:

1 Tbsp. of Olive Oil

1 Tbsp. of Coconut Oil (I use Spectrum, found at our commissary)

2-3 drops of Clove Oil

Store in a clear glass container, stored in a cool, dark cabinet. I keep mine in a baby food jar in Avalyn's changing table drawer.

 Note: This method is what worked best for us and it may not work for your child. Also, please be very careful when using this method! I would hate for anyone to experience a burn/blistered mouth. If in doubt, ask your child's pediatrician. :)
